Abraham Pleads for Sodom, verse 16-33
Comment 1:
In this section, we compare the way Prophet Abraham a.s. pleads for
Sodom in The Bible and the Holy Quran. The people of Prophet Lout a.s (Lot)
were indulging in homosexual activity.
In Bible as stated below Prophet Abraham was pleading whether Lord will destroy the righteous with wicked. He managed to plead from fifty righteous person to ten righteous person if found in the city he requested that Lord will spare the town. The words are highlighted below, for example in verse 25, Prophet Abraham questioned the judgement of Lord (God) as stated below. Do you really think Prophet Abraham really said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" ?
25Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
31Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."
In The Holy Quran, we know that Prophet Abraham a.s pleaded for the people of Lout (Lot) and also for Prophet Lot a.s. as stated in Surah Hud, verse 74 and Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 32.
We (muslim) believe that God (Allah S.W.T) is the Best Judge and Most Just of judges and Prophet Abraham a.s. also doesn't question His Judgement as stated in the Bible.
For example, on the day of Resurrection Prophet Abraham a.s. will meet his disbelieving father Azar whose face will be dark and covered with dust and Prophet Abraham a.s. will pleads for his father as stated below. Why Prophet Abraham a.s. is not pleading like stated in the Bible after all this time it is for his father which is in a greater danger? Notice the truth and falsehood.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 569:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "On the Day of Resurrection Abraham will meet his father Azar whose face will be dark and covered with dust.(The Prophet Abraham will say to him): 'Didn't I tell you not to disobey me?' His father will reply: 'Today I will not disobey you.' 'Abraham will say: 'O Lord! You promised me not to disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection; and what will be more disgraceful to me than cursing and dishonoring my father?' Then Allah will say (to him):' 'I have forbidden Paradise for the disbelievers." Then he will be addressed, 'O Abraham! Look! What is underneath your feet?' He will look and there he will see a Dhabh (an animal,) blood-stained, which will be caught by the legs and thrown in the (Hell) Fire."

Comment 2: In the Bible, it is mentioned in verse 17 that the angels not sure whether to inform Prophet Abraham a.s. or not regarding Sodom (to be destroyed). But in The Holy Quran, in Surah Hud, verse 70 and Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 31 the angels informs Prophet Abraham a.s. without hesitation that the decree of God (Allah S.W.T) has gone forth because they were disbelievers and homosexual.
Furthermore, in the Bible verse 20 and 21, Lord (angel) was not sure whether the wickedness of Sodom really as bad as the outcry that has reached him. That why he need to go to Sodom and investigate himself. In contract to that in The Holy Quran, in Surah Hud, verse 76 it is mentioned that the Commandment of God has gone forth and it cannot be turned back.

Surah As-Sajdah (The Prostation) / Chapter 32
28. They say: "When will this AlFath (Decision) be (between us and you, i.e. the Day of Resurrection), if you are telling the truth?"
29. Say: "On the Day of AlFath (Decision), no profit will it be to those who disbelieve if they (then) believe! Nor will they be granted a respite."
30. So turn aside from them (O Muhammad S.A.W) and await, verily they (too) are awaiting.

the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham
walked along with them to see them on their way.
17Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? 18Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.d 19For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him." 20Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know." 22The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD. e 23Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare f the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?" 26The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." 27Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it." 29Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it." 30Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." 31Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it." 32Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it." 33When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home. |
Surah Hud (Prophet Hud a.s.)/ Chapter 11, verse 74-76 70. But when he saw their hands went
not towards it (the meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and
conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not, we have been sent against the people
of Lout (Lot)." 75. Verily, Ibrahîm (Abraham) was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allâh with humility, and was repentant (to Allâh all the time, again and again). 76. "O Ibrahîm (Abraham)! Forsake this. Indeed, the Commandment of your Lord has gone forth. Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back." Surah
Al-Ankabut (The Spider) / 31. And when Our Messengers came to Ibrâhim (Abraham) with the glad tidings they said: "Verily, we are going to destroy the people of this [Lout's (Lot's)] town (i.e. the town of Sodom in Palestine) truly, its people have been Zâlimûn [wrong-doers, polytheists and disobedient to Allâh, and have also belied their Messenger Lout (Lot)]." 32. Ibrâhim (Abraham) said: "But there is Lout (Lot) in it." They said:"We know better who is there, we will verily save him [Lout (Lot)] and his family, except his wife, she will be of those who remain behind (i.e. she will be destroyed along with those who will be destroyed from her folk)." |
Surah Al-Maidah (The Table Spread with Food)/ Chapter 5
50. Do they then seek the judgement of (the Days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgement than Allâh for a people who have firm Faith.
Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle)/ Chapter 6
57. Say (O Muhammad S.A.W): "I am on clear proof from my Lord (Islâmic Monotheism), but you deny (the truth that has come to me from Allâh). I have not gotten what you are asking for impatiently (the torment). The decision is only for Allâh, He declares the truth, and He is the Best of judges."
Surah Hud (Prophet Hud)/ Chapter 11
36. And it was inspired to Nûh (Noah): "None of your people will believe except those who have believed already. So be not sad because of what they used to do.
37. "And construct the ship under Our Eyes and with Our Inspiration, and address Me not on behalf of those who did wrong; they are surely to be drowned."
38. And as he was constructing the ship, whenever the chiefs of his people passed by him, they made a mockery of him. He said: "If you mock at us, so do we mock at you likewise for your mocking.
39. "And you will know who it is on whom will come a torment that will cover him with disgrace and on whom will fall a lasting torment."
40. (So it was) till then there came Our Command and the oven gushed forth (water like fountains from the earth). We said: "Embark therein, of each kind two (male and female), and your family, except him against whom the Word has already gone forth, and those who believe. And none believed with him, except a few."
41. And he [Nûh (Noah)] said: "Embark therein, in the Name of Allâh will be its moving course and its resting anchorage. Surely, my Lord is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Tafsir At-Tabarî, Vol. 12, Page 43)
42. So it (the ship) sailed with them amidst the waves like mountains, and Nûh (Noah) called out to his son, who had separated himself (apart), "O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers."
43. The son replied: "I will betake myself to a mountain, it will save me from the water." Nûh (Noah) said: "This day there is no saviour from the Decree of Allâh except him on whom He has mercy." And a wave came in between them, so he (the son) was among the drowned.
44. And it was said: "O earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold (your rain)." And the water was diminished (made to subside) and the Decree (of Allâh) was fulfilled (i.e. the destruction of the people of Nûh (Noah). And it (the ship) rested on Mount Judi, and it was said: "Away with the people who are Zalimûn (polytheists and wrong-doing)!"
45. And Nûh (Noah) called upon his Lord and said, "O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true, and You are the Most Just of the judges."
46. He said: "O Nûh (Noah)! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorants."
47. Nûh (Noah) said: "O my Lord! I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I would indeed be one of the losers."
48. It was said: "O Nûh (Noah)! Come down (from the ship) with peace from Us and blessings on you and on the people who are with you (and on some of their off spring), but (there will be other) people to whom We shall grant their pleasures (for a time), but in the end a painful torment will reach them from Us."
49. This is of the news of the unseen which We reveal unto you (O Muhammad S.A.W), neither you nor your people knew them before this. So be patient. Surely, the (good) end is for the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2)
Surah Az-Zumar (The Groups)/ Chapter 39
69. And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord (Allâh, when He will come to judge among men) and the Book will be placed (open) and the Prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward, and it will be judged between them with truth, and they will not be wronged.
70. And each person will be paid in full of what he did; and He is Best Aware of what they do.
71. And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups, till, when they reach it, the gates thereof will be opened (suddenly like a prison at the arrival of the prisoners). And its keepers will say, "Did not the Messengers come to you from yourselves, reciting to you the Verses of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "Yes, but the Word of torment has been justified against the disbelievers!"
72. It will be said (to them): "Enter you the gates of Hell, to abide therein. And (indeed) what an evil abode of the arrogant!"
73. And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in groups, till, when they reach it, and its gates will be opened (before their arrival for their reception) and its keepers will say: Salâmun 'Alaikum (peace be upon you)! You have done well, so enter here to abide therein."
74. And they will say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allâh Who has fulfilled His Promise to us and has made us inherit (this) land. We can dwell in Paradise where we will; how excellent a reward for the (pious good) workers!"
75. And you will see the angels surrounding the Throne (of Allâh) from all round, glorifying the praises of their Lord (Allâh). And they (all the creatures) will be judged with truth, and it will be said. All the praises and thanks be to Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists)."
Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen)/ Chapter 68
36. What is the matter with you? How judge you?
37. Or have you a Book through which you learn.
38. That you shall have all that you choose?
39. Or you have oaths from Us, reaching to the Day of Resurrection that yours will be what you judge.
Surah At-Tin (The Fig) / Chapter 95
8. Is not Allâh the Best of judges?
